Helping others. My heart is being filled, through my career.
Since my early 20’s I have wanted to do mission work and spend time helping others.
I started a family, my career and have always said someday I will do this.
This past month my heart has been pulling to do something now, through my photography. Not sure why it was hitting me so hard. I trusted it would show itself to me.
I had a trip planned with friends to Dominican. Two days before leaving for my trip, during a conversation with my sister, I told her what was on my heart and that I felt this pull to start helping others now. She told me that the charity that I love Boaz Global had a young mother in the area of Punta Cana. She had only moved to the area two weeks prior with her two children. The move was made to try to find a job at a resort, which is extremely hard to do.
She struggles to eat each day, mainly finding scraps from others. There is very little besides a bed, rickety metal walls and a metal roof.
My initial plan was to visit her home and bring awareness to the feeding program that the Boaz runs to help support families like this around the world and locally.
As hard as I tried to get to her, it was not working out. So I was happy when she offered to travel to meet me.
I had brought some supplies of clothing, hygiene products, toys, books, shoes and other items I thought she could use.
The only thing she had asked for was if I could pack any food for her, as she was really hungry that day. I told her I would.
We are now new best friends, and here is how it happened.
Once she arrived, I knew it in my heart I could not only see her for 20 minutes and send her back off as the resort requested. Her new baby boy was with her also.
So instead after some pleading to staff, by God’s grace I was able to get her in the resort for 6 hours. She was welcomed as a guest, treated well by the staff and other guests.
The joy and her smile did not leave her face the entire time. To my enjoyment, she wanted me to take pictures of the whole experience.
We changed clothing, and then we ate together twice. She loved the Pizza and literally ran across the buffet room when she seen it.
We then we took to the pool to have some fun. Some fellow New Brunswick’s encouraged her to take her first swim. After much help she finally did it on her own and the crowd around the pool cheered for her. She was so proud!
It was the best day ever for me. She later disclosed to the charity that I had given her the best day of her life.
It’s not what I had set out to do, then it played out how it was meant to. The pull was for her; I know her prayers were answered that day. When she left, I cried like a baby trying not to let her see my tears for her.
MY MISSON HELPING OTHERS
So my mission was to bring awareness to the feeding programs goals. They are trying to raise 100,000 meals this year. Each meal costs 50 cents. If you, or your company can contribute to help please let me know. Boaz Global is based out of Fredericton. The have children needing sponsors too. This charity does so much; it’s amazing to see this unfolding before our eyes.
I hope you enjoy the glance into our BEST DAY EVER! Send an email at [email protected] and they will let you know how to help her and her boys out. Donate now to help feed families in need, 100,000 meals are needed this year.
