Printing Your Family Portraits in Saint John

Printing your Saint John family portraits at the right location.

I always refer my Saint John clients to take their family portraits to certain labs to ensure that they receive the best service and the best long lasting quality that holds up to the standards I am confident with.  After all, it’s ultimately my work that will be displayed and I want it to be seen in the best light possible.

Not all labs hold to the same level of quality. It’s important to know that certain machines run on their own settings and will look at an image overall and make their own assessment on the image. You may be able to go in one day with an image and have it look great…but go in the next day with the same image and have it look terrible. It can be hit or miss…which means it will also be hit or miss whether you get value for your money.

For example, if a family portrait is taken with a black backdrop, non professional machines will scan over the photo and think it’s underexposed (too dark).  They will then try to compensate for it by brightening the image.  The result will end up with faces being washed out and really bright. Not a great family portrait.

Then on the other end if you have a family portrait taken with a white back drop the non professional labs will scan over the image and thinks it’s over exposed (too bright), so it will take it upon itself to darken down your image making your faces red and unnatural looking. Red skin it my biggest pet peeve and even worse when I see my work printed with such poor quality.

Professional labs are very diligent in their work and are often not much more costly then other labs. I would much rather spend a few dollars more and receive something that looks the way it was naturally taken and be able to treasure it for years. You take the time in preparing (and Paying) for your family session…make the end result worth your effort.

You always have to option to print your sessions through me or just be sure to ask what labs I recommend in Saint John. It is not a secret that I strongly prefer Appleby’s Foto Source on Germain street for all my work. They are the backbone to my business and I’m always 100% pleased with the work and quality they produce for me.

I hope that this helps with your printing as you prepare your Christmas cards and ensures the best printing quality for your gifts!  No one wants to have to wait for prints to be redone a second time to try to get better colors. Who has time for that?

One last thing…before printing family portraits in Saint John, you have to have some taken!  I’d be happy to take care of that for you ;).  Just give me a call at 638-8103 to make an appointment.

Enjoy the Season!
